Introduction

JKKN Cultural Arts Resource Centre (PSSB) is a cultural arts information reference centre that support research needs of JKKN staff at the Headquarters and states, cultural arts researchers, IPTA and IPTS students, primary and secondary school students and individuals.

The collections at the Resource Centre consist of various categories of library materials such as books, journals, magazines, volume magazines, paper works, report books, press cuttings, CD, VCD, DVD, and photos. Until now (July 2020), the collection at the Resource Centre exceeds eight thousand titles of materials regarding cultural and arts may it be local or international resources.

In line with the development of information technology, the PSSB materials can be accessed for search by using OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog). At JKKN, the library system uses that of KOHA starting from 24 January 2011. The Resource Centre also provides services such as circulation (borrowing and returning) only for officers and staff, information search, customer service, and any inquiries related to cultural arts references.

Membership

Membership registration is open to all JKKN Headquarters and JKKN State officers and staff and. Registration can be done by filling up the membership registration form which can be obtained from the Resource Centre staff. The completed form should be sent to respective staff for registration process. Materials borrowing services are only for JKKN officers and staff . External users and visitors are only allowed to do reference at PSSB. Photocopying service is NOT provided and subject to Copyright Act 1987.

Library Materials Classification System

The Cultural Arts Resource Centre uses the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) System to:

• Locate materials fast and precise on the racks and returning the materials to its original place;
• Ensure library materials are arranged in the same batch;
• Facilitate books arrangement and disposal selection process;
• Assist in storing few types of statistics such as number of books and borrowing records; and
• Make it easier for users to find materials direct from the rack (browsing) by referring to the required classification number.
