Background

The National Department for Culture and Arts Complex in Perak (Perak JKKN) commenced construction on 24 May 1995 with a two (2) acres of building area on a land area of four (4) acres. The cost of construction for this complex was amounting Ringgit Malaysia Three Million (RM3,000,000.00) allocated under the 6th Malaysia Plan. The Perak JKKN Building commenced occupation on 14 June 1996 and has now been 25 years of operation.

Originally, Perak JKKN started when Perak State Cultural Council was formed in 1974 which was the main body for the establishment of cultural activities in Perak State. The establishment of this Council arose from the passionate interest in culture and arts towards creating awareness among society on the importance of preserving the heritage.

Perak JKKN at the time was also known as the Perak State Cultural and Arts Office until 2004, where Perak JKKN was established and responsible in carrying out duties in planning, implementing and monitoring culture and arts activities in the State in line with the vision and mission of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).
