Background

In 1987, the Southern Region Department of Culture and Arts set up office in Malacca State. In 1993, En.Abd Rauf bin Puteh was the first Director of Johore State Department of Culture and Tourism situated in Johore Cultural Arts Park, Jalan Skudai, Johor Bharu, Johore.

In 1995, the department was relocated at 13 Floor, Tun Abdul Razak Building (KOMTAR) or better known now as Johor Bahru City Center (JBCC). At the time, the department was known as Johore State Department of Culture and Arts and the director at the time was Encik Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Muhamad.

Subsequently from 1997 until 2002, the Johore State Department of Culture and Arts was under its Director Encik Mohd Razy Bin Mohd Nor. In early 2002 until 2002, Tuan Haji Sulaiman Bin Yusoff took over as the Director of Johore State Department of Culture and Arts.

In 2004, the department was changed to Johore State Department of Culture, Arts and Heritage with its Director Encik Rosli Bin Osman.

While in 2005 until 2016, Encik Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Muhamad became the director of the department.

On 1 July 2021, the department was relocated from 13th Floor, Tun Abdul Razak Building (KOMTAR) to Level 6 Wisma PERKESO, Jalan Larkin Johor Bahru, Johor.

  • To implement research and development, documentation and publishing, cultural arts coaching, skilled human capital development in cultural arts field, expanding cultural arts, enhancing cultural arts, artistic and production development, and cultural arts promotional programmes;
  • Building effective networking between cultural arts industry players, Government agencies, Private sectors, Non-Government Organizations and cultural arts activists locally and internationally;
  • Providing platform for arts activists involved in economic field through cultural arts activities;
  • Strengthening cultural and arts activities that are appropriate to become domestic and international tourist attractions; AND
  • Optimizing States JKKN organizational functions.

  • Due to the close vicinity of Johore JKKN to Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal, the choice of transportation for those who intend to visit Johore JKKN is recommended to use taxi services from the terminal with a fare of only RM5.00 which is just a walking distance away.
  • If you are coming from JB Sentral, you can take a ride on public buses to Larkin Sentral Terminal with a fare of RM3.00 or by taxi with a fare of RM10.00
