Since 2006, National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) has implemented the Apprenticeship Programme, as an effort in preserving and maintaining traditional arts through the creation of successors group. Until 2020, there are 88 groups trained under this programme involving 68 arts. Other than periodical training, the participants are also exposed to stage performance. In 2020, this programme was implemented in nine (9) states as follows:

The Art Apprenticeship Program aims to preserve and maintain traditional arts to produce successors in traditional arts. Art Apprenticeship is a targeted program comprising training and learning of traditional art skills. This program is implemented in synergy with the community of the origin of the art, guided by key practitioners and master craftsmen who are taking on apprentices.

This programme has produced several apprenticeship groups that are able to stand on their own and achieve various successes in the country and abroad. The apprenticeship program implemented since 2009 until now (2023) has produced 83 apprenticeship groups and 1,848 entries involving 64 arts. For the 2023 session, a total of 15 apprenticeships will be implemented:
