27 & 28 September 2024 – TEATER KLASIK INDIA: “AYYAPPA”
September 27 & 28, 2024 - INDIAN CLASSICAL THEATER: "AYYAPPA"
Lord Ayyappa is a renowned Hindu deity revered in South India. He is believed to have been born of the union between Lord Shiva and Mohini, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Hence, Ayyappa is also known as 'Hariharan Puthiran' or 'Hariharputhra', meaning the 'son' of Hari (Vishnu) and Haran (Shiva). According to legend, when Shiva and Mohini abandoned the infant Ayyappa on the banks of the Pampa River, King Rajasekhara of Pandalam, who was childless, discovered the baby and adopted him as his own son.
The origin myth of Lord Ayyappa found in the Puranas or ancient scriptures is truly captivating. This performance adapts the legendary tale to depict how Ayyappa's upbringing and palace intrigues shaped his personality and philosophy towards life.
